Loom T3 Technology List

This blog entry is about a tool of my own interest from the list of T3 Instructing Technologies provided by Dr. Wang. I chose to explore the website: Loom. This tool can be used to achieve the Instructing aspect of Teaching (T3) by allowing teachers to create videos to present content to students. I have actually used this tool personally and both as a student watching my professor's Loom, and it works great!

Loom is a video platform where you can record videos using both your camera and screen at the same time, which is extremely useful! Another super great aspect of Loom is that once you are done recording your video, you are provided with a link. You can post this link anywhere (like Google Classroom for example for your students to see) and anyone with the link can watch your video without making an account. There is also an interactive aspect where viewers can respond to your video with emojis, time-stamped comments, and other fun things like that!

It is free to make an account with Loom, and you can invite people to your "workspace" where they can access all of your Looms. Loom can be used on desktop, by downloading their app, or downloading a Chrome extension.

You can also create spaces within your larger workspace where all members can participate and upload their own Looms. This would be great if your students were working on a group project, you could create individual "spaces" for each group.

Overall, I found this website to be very easy to use. I really like that Loom gives you a link for anyone to access your videos without having to make an account. That saves time for both the video maker and the viewer and is very useful. It's also great that you can record yourself while sharing your screen, I have ran into the need for this many times before, and have never found quite the right tool.

I also think this tool has a lot of versatility. You can create videos about absolutely any topic you want, and it isn't restricted to only teacher use. I think this could be a great method of assessment for students if they were each to create their own videos, especially utilizing the individual "spaces" element of the website.

And finally, I think the overall likelihood of using this tool in my classroom is very high. I love this tool and am glad that I discovered it. I can 100% see myself using this to record extra content for my students and introduce them to various things!
